Diogo Piçarra Leaves the Festival da Cançao

Diogo Piçarra leaves the Festival due to an alleged plagiarism

"It is a pride to be able to represent my country in a contest like Eurovision, but it does not make sense not even to try to take advantage of this opportunity", says the artist on Facebook after accusations of plagiarism.

Diogo Piçaroo one of the favorites to win the Festival da Cançao that got 24 points in the semifinal rising with the victory and the place for the national semifinal, now leaves the competition for accusations of plagiarism for his Cançao do Fim that has great resemblance to the religious song Abre os meus olhos by Pastor Walter McCallister. The Portuguese singer has announced his retirement on Facebook.

"To all this family, I inform you that I have decided to end my participation in the Festival da Cançao.

There are no words to thank all the support and affection I have received in the last 24 hours of colleagues, friends, family and fans. My position is the same in relation to my music, I have a clear conscience and a very high head. But I do not want to feed this cloud anymore. All this that has been created around my participation is no longer music.

I do not want to stop saying the pride that supposes for my being able to represent my country in a contest like Eurovision, but it does not make sense not even to try to take advantage of this opportunity.

My career and my life do not depend on this, it only depends on you and in that sense I know that I will always be well accompanied.

To all the contestants, I hope that the next Eurovision 2018 winner will leave the Festival da Cançao, and I will be here, like all the Portuguese, clapping on their feet.

Thanks for everything. "
